Ciudad de México.-The Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT) and the Asociación Mexicana de Restaurantes (AMR) awarded 16 new Distintivo T certifications to restaurants in Mexico City, recognizing the training of 121 employees in tequila knowledge and service.
The program included five modules covering alcoholic beverages and regulations, the history of tequila, agave cultivation and harvesting, the production process, and tequila tasting. Participants also completed a final evaluation to obtain the certification.
The awards were presented during a ceremony at Japonez Polanco. Diego Osante Jaurégui, representing the CRT, said the certification helps restaurant staff strengthen their knowledge of tequila’s origin, characteristics and regulations. AMR president Hugo Vela Reyna highlighted the opportunities for tequila pairings in the restaurant industry.
With these 16 new certifications, the number of Distintivo T establishments in Mexico reached 330, while 182 have been awarded internationally.
The certified restaurants are Japonez Santa Fé, Japonez Oasis, Japonez Manacar, Japonez Polanco, Japonez Artz, Japonez Interlomas, Cluny, Mesa Mexicana, Estoril, Attenti, La Casa de la Yeya, Brunno, Ofelia, La Buena Fe, Papa Bill’s and Scoozi.
According to CRT figures, between January and July 2026, tequila production reached 350.5 million liters, while exports totaled 252.2 million liters. During the same period, the industry reported 43,238 agave producers and 229 certified tequila producers.
