23 tequila companies receive Hecho en México certification

Zapopan, Jalisco.-The Mexican Ministry of Economy officially granted 23 Tequila companies the “Hecho en México” (Made in Mexico) certification on Friday, authorizing the use of the national trademark across 81 brands.

With these new entries, a total of 64 companies and 249 Tequila brands currently hold the certification.

The event was led by Alberto Uribe Camacho, Director General for National Content and Energy Sector Development at the Ministry of Economy; José Luis Coronado Vázquez, Director of Museums, Exhibitions, and Galleries of Jalisco (MEG); and Aurelio López Rocha, President of the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT).

López Rocha stated that the certification strengthens the commercial presence of Tequila in both domestic and international markets while protecting the labor behind the industry.

To qualify for the “Hecho en México” trademark, applicants must undergo an evaluation process to prove the product is fully manufactured or processed within national territory, alongside verifying sustainable practices. Uribe Camacho noted that the certification involves strict assessment frameworks rather than immediate clearance, adding that remaining industry firms are expected to complete the process in the coming months.

Cultural Heritage and Public Access

The presentation took place within the framework of the continuous remodeling of Tequila Lab’s “Agave Forest”. The site integrated new sculptures by local artists Camilo Ramírez and Carlos Terrés, which depict the traditional production process and the industry workforce.

Coronado Vázquez highlighted that 2026 marks the 20th anniversary of UNESCO designating the Agave Landscape and Ancient Industrial Facilities of Tequila as a World Heritage site. He noted that Mexico ranks third globally in total UNESCO listings, with Jalisco leading the country in heritage sites.

Tequila Lab announced that from June 12 to June 14, the facility will host guided tours and complimentary tastings provided by local Tequila producers. Activities will run from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM daily, with free admission for the public.
