Guadalajara, Jalisco. – The Jalisco Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (SADER Jalisco for its acronym in Spanish) has launched the State Strategic Project for Crop Conversion to support agave producers amid current industry challenges. The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Ingenio de Tala, involves converting 796 hectares of agave to sugarcane in the El Carmen delegation, located in Ahualulco de Mercado.

In the program’s first phase, 149 producers from the Valles region will receive support, provided their agave plantations are less than three years old. Eduardo Ron Ramos, head of SADER Jalisco, explained that the state government will allocate 3,200 pesos per hectare for land clearing and preparation for planting.

“The Government of Jalisco will contribute 3,200 pesos per hectare to benefit producers,” the official stated.

The Ingenio de Tala will finance the sugarcane planting and provide technical assistance to farmers participating in the program. Ron Ramos highlighted the importance of this partnership in ensuring the viability of the crop conversion.

“We are grateful to the Ingenio de Tala and its executives for facilitating this significant transition for producers,” he said.

The crop conversion plan includes a guaranteed purchase of the cultivated sugarcane, securing income for participating farmers.
