Guadalajara, Jalisco.-In celebration of National Tequila Day, the Government of Jalisco, the National Chamber for the Tequila Industry (CNIT), and the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT) hosted a special commemorative event that brought together agave growers, tequila producers, bottlers, marketers, and public officials. The gathering marked a historic milestone: the awarding of a Guinness World Record for the largest exhibition of different tequila bottles.
The record was set at Tequila Lab, where 3,199 unique bottles of tequila are now on display. The symbolic achievement was made official during the event, which was presided over by the Governor of Jalisco, Pablo Lemus Navarro.
“Talking about tequila is talking about Mexico. It’s important to remember where we started and how far we’ve come. Thanks to the efforts of the Tequila Regulatory Council, we’ve not only secured a Denomination of Origin, but also ensured quality and global recognition,” said Governor Lemus during his address.
Juan José Frangie, Mayor of Zapopan, emphasized the cultural and economic significance of tequila: “Tequila is tradition, art, economy, culture—and above all, identity. It’s our best ambassador in the world. In 2006, the Agave Landscape was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and tequila was the first Mexican product to receive Denomination of Origin status.”
Rodolfo González, Treasurer of the CRT Board of Directors, highlighted the collective effort behind the record:
“Each of these bottles represents the hands of more than 100,000 families working in the agave fields and production facilities. This exhibition is not only a visual tribute, but a living declaration of pride in our national identity.”
The event also served as a call for unity in the face of current economic and political challenges. Roberto Ciprés, president of the CNIT, urged stakeholders across the tequila supply chain to maintain solidarity:
“Today, we reaffirm that unity is essential to preserve this national heritage. Collaboration among producers, civil society, and all levels of government is more important than ever.”
This year’s National Tequila Day coincides with growing efforts to align the celebration with International Tequila Day on July 24, as part of a legislative initiative to promote the spirit both nationally and globally.
More than just a drink, tequila continues to serve as a cultural icon, an economic driver, and a source of national pride. With this world record, the tequila industry reaffirms its commitment to placing Mexico’s emblematic beverage on the global stage.
