Tequila Exports Rise 29.3% at the Start of 2025

Zapopan, Jalisco. – Tequila exports began 2025 with a 29.3% increase compared to the same period last year, according to the Consejo Regulador del Tequila (CRT). In January, 37.1 million liters of the beverage were shipped to more than 120 countries, strengthening its presence in international markets.

The United States remained the top importer, accounting for 86% of the total volume. However, China made a notable return to the list of the top 10 tequila destinations, while Colombia maintained its position in the ranking. Other key markets include Germany, Spain, Canada, France, the United Kingdom, Australia, and Japan.

“IN THE FIRST MONTH OF THE YEAR, WE SEE THAT THE UNITED STATES CONTINUES TO LEAD THE TOP TEN TEQUILA-IMPORTING COUNTRIES. HOWEVER, WE ALSO FIND ASIAN MARKETS SUCH AS CHINA AND JAPAN ON THE LIST, ALONGSIDE SOUTH AMERICAN NATIONS LIKE COLOMBIA, AND EUROPEAN MARKETS INCLUDING GERMANY AND SPAIN. THIS SHOWS HOW TEQUILA PRODUCERS ARE SETTING THEIR SIGHTS ON CONQUERING NEW MARKETS,” SAID RAMÓN GONZÁLEZ FIGUEROA, DIRECTOR OF THE CRT.

Of the total exported, 73% belonged to the 100% Agave Tequila category, while the remaining 27% fell under the Tequila category. Expanding into new markets remains a top priority for the tequila industry this year, with the goal of strengthening the drink’s global presence.

The CRT emphasized that compliance evaluation has been key in positioning tequila as one of the world’s most reliable and well-regulated alcoholic beverages. This strong regulatory framework has helped build trust among both domestic and international consumers.
